Purpose of the Role
As a member of the Resources & Production regional operational team, the EICA Engineer forms part of a flexible, sub-regional resource pool providing specialist support and coordination across operational maintenance activities.
The role is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of maintenance activities across electrical, instrumentation, control, automation, and wider treatment assets. Working across multiple operational sites, the EICA Engineer provides expert technical knowledge to ensure the reliability, performance and compliance of operational assets while supporting both planned and reactive maintenance requirements.
The role requires advanced hands-on maintenance expertise, strong self-management skills and the ability to independently plan, organise and deliver maintenance activities. The EICA Engineer will support asset reliability improvements, undertake fault investigation and root cause analysis, and contribute to operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives across treatment operations.
The post holder will work flexibly across South West Water (SWW) and Bristol Water (BW) operational areas according to business priorities and operational need.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate and deliver maintenance activities across EICA and treatment assets.
Provide technical expertise and support to operational maintenance teams across multiple sites.
Undertake advanced fault finding, diagnostics, repair and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems.
Support maintenance delivery across mechanical, electrical and ICA disciplines where skills and competencies allow.
Maintain, support and troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, telemetry and control systems.
Ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and in line with company procedures and statutory requirements.
Prepare and review risk assessments, method statements and maintenance documentation.
Assist in identifying asset performance issues, undertake root cause analysis and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Support Lean Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) principles and asset improvement programmes.
Coordinate planned preventative maintenance programmes and support delivery of reactive maintenance activities.
Maintain accurate maintenance records using company systems and processes.
Work collaboratively with site operations, engineering and maintenance teams to optimise asset performance and reliability.
Undertake site reviews and provide recommendations to improve operational performance and asset resilience.
Support operational resilience by responding to urgent maintenance requirements and business-critical incidents.
Provide technical guidance, coaching and knowledge sharing across regional operational teams.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, environmental compliance and operational excellence.
Participate in operational improvement projects, working groups and business change initiatives as required.
Adhere to all health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
Share technical knowledge and best practice across the regional operational teams.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
Advanced knowledge and practical experience of EICA maintenance activities.
Relevant technical qualification in Electrical, Instrumentation, Control or Automation Engineering.
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic capability across electrical, instrumentation and control systems.
Experience working with PLC, SCADA, telemetry and industrial control systems.
Experience working on complex operational or treatment assets across multiple sites.
Sound understanding of planned preventative maintenance methodologies and asset reliability principles.
Ability to prepare and review maintenance documentation including RAMS and safe systems of work.
Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
Experience using maintenance management and business systems.
Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and manage competing demands.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Full UK driving licence.
Working Arrangements
Based within a regional operational team structure.
Flexible deployment across SWW and BW operational areas.
Regular travel between operational sites is required.
Occasional overnight stays and periods away from home may be required.
Participation in a standby rota is required.
Flexible working hours may be required to support operational priorities and emergency response activities.
Participation in operational improvement workshops, projects and working groups as required.
The role requires the ability to respond to operational priorities and emergency situations when necessary.
